Why is a hawthorn strainer so called?

dunno..................
Why is a hawthorn strainer so called?
i've looked all over the place but can't find an answer for you my best guess would be the name of the person who invented it
Reply:The Hawthorn strainer is flat and circular with a handle and several flat stabilising prongs coming out of the rim. It has a metal spring around it's rim that will roll inward slightly to fit inside a glass. The circular rim of the strainer need not be touching the rim of the glass, as the spring inside will filter out the ice.

Perhaps it had this name because someone called Hawthorn invented it
Reply:I've hunted, and all I can guess is that it is a name for a particular type of strainer, probably manufactured originally by Hawthorn(e)
